Matter of Light is owned by Laura Criollo-Carrillo, visual artist and art director. The brand is a combination of her passion for light art, ethereal aesthetics and home decor.
Her creations are inspired by her artistic explorations on the immateriality of light and the relativity of color merged with the idea that home decor is an experience we live and feel differently every day. Using holographic and reflective materials, Laura handcrafts unique and exclusive art pieces that change their colors depending on the angle of incidence of light and the position of the viewer. This allows her to create a unique light and color experience in the space, something she likes to call instants of light, ephemerals but beautiful.
For her, conceiving and creating these artworks are a way to evoke and contemplate the complexity and the beauty of light phenomena.

Matter of Light a été créé par Laura Criollo-Carrillo, artiste visuelle et directrice artistique. La marque est une combinaison de sa passion pour le light art, l'esthétique éthérée et la décoration intérieure.
Ses créations sont inspirées de ses explorations artistiques sur l'immatérialité de la lumière et la relativité de la couleur fusionnées avec l'idée que la décoration intérieure est une expérience que nous ressentons différemment chaque jour. "The idea for Matter of Light began in 2020. Following my passion for home decor I began to work on the idea of creating handmade objects of beauty that people could take with them to the intimacy of their personal spaces. Unique pieces of art expressing my explorations as a visual and electronic artist about the immateriality of light and the relativity of color.
With this idea in mind, I began to create some illustrations to decorate my own home. Starting from a very intuitive exploration of reflective materials, what I found left me speechless. More than just an object, I was able to create an experience. The pieces I made changed their colors during the day depending on the angle of light allowing the appearance of beautiful instants of light in my home.
After a couple of months of planning and exploring, I decided to start a brand dedicated to the creation of unique handmade art pieces evoking the beauty of light phenomena, and in April 2021 I launched Matter of Light. I love to think that each piece is conceived to be contemplated in time and we just have to let us surprise by its everlasting changing beauty.”

« L'idée de Matter of Light a commencé début 2020. Grâce à ma passion pour la décoration intérieure, j'ai commencé à travailler sur l'idée de créer des objets d’art faits à la main que les gens pourraient emporter avec eux dans l'intimité de leurs espaces personnels. Des œuvres d'art uniques exprimant mes explorations en tant qu'artiste visuelle et numérique sur l'immatérialité de la lumière et la relativité de la couleur.
Avec cette idée en tête, j'ai commencé à créer des illustrations pour décorer mon propre espace personnel. Partant d'une exploration très intuitive des matériaux réfléchissants, ce que j'ai découvert m'a émue. Plus qu'un simple objet, j'ai pu créer une expérience. Les pièces que j'ai réalisées changeaient de couleurs au cours de la journée en fonction de l'angle de lumière permettant l'apparition d’instants de lumière dans ma maison.
Après quelques mois de planification, j'ai décidé de commencer une marque d'objets d'art uniques et faits à la main, et en avril 2021 j'ai lancé Matter of Light. J'adore penser que chaque pièce est conçue pour être contemplée dans le temps et qu'il suffit de nous laisser surprendre par sa beauté toujours changeante.»
